August 23rd is the first of the 2 New Moons in Virgo this year, a phenomenon that occurs approximately every 29 months though not always in Virgo. The 2nd New Moon in Virgo will be a Solar Eclipse on September 21st. We are entering Virgo season, an exceptionally important Virgo season, as we move closer to the Fall Equinox. This is a season of purification enabling us to shine as bright as the star Spica, the brightest star in the constellation of Virgo.

Virgo is correctly and commonly associated with health, work, routine, service, science, strategy, ordering and humility. Purity is the foundation of the archetype of Virgo. Pisces, the opposite sign of Virgo, is the Soul knowing, whisper, guidance directing Virgo to live a healthy life (body, emotions, mind and spirit) which requires the support of a healthy routine, worthy work, clear mental focus, and a heart of service.

On August 23rd the Sun and the Moon will meet and join at 0 degrees of Virgo, the degree of new beginnings, at a New Moon of a new beginning for this Fall as we prepare for February 2026. Newness is a theme of this New Moon with 4 additional planets, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, at 1 or 2 degrees. This is a rare occurrence in our solar system. We are entering the 6 months of labor as the new world is being born.

The intensity and dynamic features (aspects between the planets in the New Moon chart) of this New Moon include the Sun/Moon conjunction or joining in a demanding relationship with Uranus, the planetary archetype of freedom, awakening, individuation, the higher mind. The demand and ask is for us to awaken to a crisp, fresh, new clarity of mind which knows the higher mind (activated by consistent, committed inner work) is the partner of the day-to-day normal mind.

Without activating our higher mind, the human monkey mind will be limited repeating old thoughts and beliefs as it reacts to the churning current of changeable outer events and people. This is not a free or conscious mind that can create the self, life or world we wish to create. Uranus is offering us access, accelerated access, to a needed integration between our human mind and our higher intelligence; a free, clear mind capable of a chosen creative life. We may also see acceleration in intense storms, volcanic and earthquake activity as the Earth responds to this expanding consciousness. We are entering a revolutionary time in every dimension.

Not only is the Sun/Moon conjunction square Uranus, it is also quincunx Saturn, Neptune and Pluto creating a Yod or finger of God/fated moment to align with the evolutionary leap in human consciousness that is unfolding and necessary to begin a new world. As Thomas Paine said in 1776 “we have it in our power to begin the world over again” as the world at that time birthed a democratic republic, a recognition that all should be free to live according to their Creator-given rights.

This was an evolutionary leap which opened the gateway to the far more profound awakening available now. This Yod points to the emergence of a truly renewed people and world, a purified world (released from ancient limiting beliefs and societal structures) in which All are included, all are free.

In this New Moon chart Mercury, the mind, is sextile Mars, action, telling us that we can make this mental leap; Mars is square Jupiter telling us to act guided by the knowledge that we have the support of all that has been and can be guiding and supporting us; and Venus is square Chiron calling us to lovingly tend our wounds both personal and collective clear in the knowledge that love does heal all wounds – the love of our higher self, of our loving universe if we ask.
