The World of Work or Soul Work?

Sep 5, 2025 | There is a reason | 1 comment

Pisces imagination versus Virgo work; dreaming versus striving; or, soul inspired intention balanced with soul fulfilling work, work as an expression of soul purpose. Work has always been with us in our human experience as we sought food, shelter and safety. However, there was more time for rest, play, and celebration when we lived more simply in tribal times.

As we leave the Age of Pisces with its companion Virgo, it’s opposite sign, we have maximized the concept of work – we work more and longer, we multitask, we network, we strive harder, we validate our identity through our work/income/position and we are exhausted often lonely and depressed or anxious and profoundly fearful to stop and lose our job and fall behind financially. It is time to reimagine work.

The Age of Aquarius is both ushering in an entirely new, revolutionary concept of work and developing the technology to achieve it. That technology is visible in the integration of the Internet, remote work, global work and supply chains, AI, robots, and so much more. The reality of work moving from physical to mental labor, from manufacturing to intellectual/knowledge work including service work is already here.

Continually rising prices, continually decreasing wages and life balance along with continually escalating wealth distribution from the bottom and the middle to the top is unsustainable and responsible for much of the rage and despair in our society making it clear that we have yet to imagine an entirely new, humane, satisfying, sustainable understanding of the work of the Aquarian Age.

If truly work is the external expression of our soul’s growth, then the greatest work is the personal work that opens our awareness to our divine nature and our purpose. The credo in Delphi “Know Thyself” was carved on the temple of Apollo in ancient times. The paths to awakening are many – religion, a moral philosophy, a spiritual path, a life of service, a life of artistic creativity, a therapeutic, healing path, devotion to another – a partner, children, animals – the unselfish giving voluntarily to others.

However we choose to know ourselves as souls is the foundation for developing meaningful work which many have found when they have lost a job or are desperate – selling food at a farmers market, starting a food truck, making creative, beautiful and/or useful items to market to friends and then others, moving into service born out one’s own pain as the drug addict gets clean and becomes a drug counselor, the inmate who helps those more recently freed to navigate building a new life, trusting an invention can become a business and so many more stories of successful transitions.

And yet, the world also can, is and will change through collectives that merge the resources of fellow travelers, through changes in the laws, through breaking up monopolies to create opportunity for better ideas to flourish, through less regulation for the small business not the massive corporations, through more financial support for individual businesses not more tax write offs for corporations, through collaborations and shared resources between neighbors, likeminded people with similar ideas and visions.

Most importantly individuals and governments imagining a future of prosperity and meaningful work as more technology replaces the old jobs/industries. While the idea of visionary governments may sound foolish or naive, humanity has moved from feudal structures to national structures to industrialized structures to technologically complex structures. Each iteration had a vision which reflected the consciousness of that time and those who built the structures.

The consciousness now becoming fully available in the Age of Aquarius is one of individuation and collaboration for all with mutual benefit for all. It not Feudalism or Socialism or Communism or Tyranny or even the current version of extreme Capitalism. It is something new that includes the benefits of Capitalism with actual freedom, actual free markets, actual accessibility to resources.

If we have or can make the choice to do meaningful work, the time is now. If we can’t yet, we can develop our vision, commit to aligning with others to create a responsive government for its citizens, all of us. The time is now. Work can become a sacred adventure of the soul when our livelihood is a pillar of our life.
